Beat the January blues on #loveDMUMonday

Monday 15 January is 'Blue Monday', supposedly the most depressing day of the year. Using a formula devised by Dr Cliff Arnell, variables such as weather conditions, failed New Year's resolutions, the end of Christmas and low motivation levels all combine to come up with the date each year when we are most likely to feel a bit down.

But don't worry, DMU is on hand to help staff and students combat the January blues! We've planned a day of activities, giveaways and events called #loveDMUMonday designed to give you a boost and help you stay positive.

Come along to the Campus Centre Atrium on Monday 15 January any time between 10am to 3pm and take advantage of a wide variety of things that can enhance your wellbeing. See below for the itinerary:

10-11am: Tai Chi masterclass - A qualified instructor will be on hand to guide you through some Tai Chi moves, leaving you feeling calm and ready to face the day.

11am-1pm: Grab a FREE smoothie or some fruit for a healthy drink or snack.

11am-1pm: Mental Health support - There will also advice and guidance available from the DMU Mental Health team and the Chaplaincy will be setting up the 'Sofa of Serenity'. The national #BeatBlueMonday campaign is also taking place on the day, which promotes help and support available for mental health issues - click on the link to find out more.

12-2pmTime to get active with the QEII Leisure Centre and our DMUsport societies. Staff from the QEII will be running a series of challenges for you to get involved in, such as 'How many press ups can you do in a minute?' They will also have information on how you can join up and get fit for 2018. Our Sports societies will be taking the opportunity to cycle away the blues as they do a two-hour relay on an exercise bike. Come along and see them in action. Sports clubs and societies will also be available to talk to you about getting involved in sport at DMU.

1-3pm: The DMU Careers and Employability team will be on hand to give you some top tips on how you can boost your future development and stand out to employers.

And there's more! Demon Media will be playing music during the day and there will be various DSU societies attending, including the Salsa Society (11-11.30am), Mocktails (1-3pm), Bollywood Society (2-2.30pm) and American Football (2.30-3pm) - so look for them in the Campus Centre Atrium and find out about how you can get involved.

We look forward to seeing you on #loveDMUMonday!
