Get a flavour of the Riverside Café at its official opening this week

The new Riverside Café is offering free samples of its food and drink this Thursday 12 January, to celebrate its official campus opening.

Chief Operating Officer Ben Browne will give a short speech in the outside seating area overlooking the River Soar, at 12.30pm on Thursday, before inviting people to enjoy the tasters.

Chartwells, which operates the café, will be putting together a selection of dishes from the café’s menu – which features a strong selection of vegan and vegetarian food, along with meat dishes – together with drinks, for visitors to sample.

Built at the western end of the Vijay Patel Building, the café is available to the public, as well as staff and students at the university.

In a spacious, well-lit setting with contemporary design, the café will also feature outdoor seating areas overlooking both the river and the landscaped grounds of the Vijay Patel Building and the redeveloped Mill Lane.

It serves a range of hot and cold breakfast, lunch and dinner meals, drawing on foods and cooking styles from around the world.

The café will be open at these times:

Term time

Monday to Friday, 8am to 10pm

Saturday and Sunday, 8.30am to 3pm

Monday to Friday, 10am to 6pm
