Premier role for students in DMU's new TV advert
Students were “proud, excited and honoured” to film scenes for De Montfort University Leicester’s (DMU) new TV advert at the King Power Stadium.
For some it was only a matter of weeks since they had played a match at the Leicester City Football Club ground – as part of DMU’s partnership with the Premier League champions.
Members of the men’s football teams from De Montfort Students’ Union (DSU) were filmed in the players’ changing rooms and running out on to the pitch for one of seven stories that make up the commercial.
Sports, History and Culture master’s student George Jackson said the crew wanted the scenes to be as realistic as possible.
He said: “In the changing rooms we had a huddle, our captain, Luke Taylor, gave a speech to get us all geared up, and then we ran down the tunnel.”
George, who had played on the hallowed turf at King Power just days after City won the league, added: “It’s great to be back.”
Ryan Marshall, who is on the Criminal Investigation and Policing Studies course, said he was “excited” to be involved.
He said: “It is amazing just to be sat here!
“DMU has helped me to be the manager of a society, so I wanted to give back to the university what it has given me.”
Between scenes, which highlight the strong bond between DSU players, the footballers were able to sit in the dugout usually occupied by City manager Claudio Ranieri and his staff.

Adam Redfern, Journalism graduate and former DSU Vice-President Media and Communications, said he was “honoured” to have been given the opportunity.
“It is great to represent the university at football, but this is something extra you can look back on when you leave,” he said.
Luke Taylor, who graduated in Film Studies this summer, thinks it’s great to showcase DMU’s partnership with City.
He said: “We’ve been given so many opportunities, such as the chance to play on the pitch at King Power and talking about Leicester’s success on Sky Sport.”
Other students had different reasons for wanting to be involved.
Ash Gabriel, an International Marketing and Business with Mandarin student, said: “I really, really wanted to take part in this because it looks pretty awesome. I’ve just been taking a look at the shots and they look so cool.”
These integral scenes showcase the inspirational goals students pursue – and highlight DMU’s strong connection with Leicester City.
The footballers enjoyed the filming process and Silas Gardner, who is studying History and International Relations, added: “It has been great fun to take part in.
“I can’t wait to see the TV advert when it comes out. It will be a great moment. I’m excited and proud.”
This tops off a great year for DMU footballers, with both the men’s and women’s teams winning their Varsity First XI matches on a memorable night at Oadby Town. The men’s team, managed by Leicester City legend Matt Elliott, received their trophy live on Sky Sports News.
These scenes showcase DMU's longstanding partnership with Premier League football champions Leicester City, a deal which brings hundreds of opportunities for students, including the opportunity to win free tickets to see Premier League games. Students have also been able to take advantage of work placement opportunities and a chance to meet their football heroes.
