More free reusable mugs and water fountains to be made available

Since Welcome Weekend, DMU has distributed a whopping 21,000 reusable mugs to staff and students. During the first week of the new prices being introduced, 80 per cent of hot drinks purchased on campus were made using the new DMU reusable mug – totalling a combined 6,922 coffees, teas and hot chocolates.

We’re delighted with the take up so far and the joint efforts to help remove single-use plastics from campus which is a key part of our commitment to support the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By using your reusable mug at the coffee shops across campus you’ll save 25p for every tea, hot chocolate or coffee you purchase. This means doing your bit for the environment can also help you save a bit of extra cash to spend on other things.

Another major feature of our sustainability goals and service to staff and students is the extensive availability of water points across campus. Hot water to make your own tea or coffee while on campus is available in the Campus Centre, Kimberlin Library and the Food Village area. New cold water fountains are being installed indoors in the below locations over the next three weeks, so keep a look out. You will be able to use these new water filler locations to fill bottles as well as your DMU reusable mug.

We’ll be releasing a more visual guide of where to find our water fountains very soon, so keep a look out on our social media channels.

A big thanks to everyone for choosing to reuse as we do our bit to create a more sustainable planet!
