Can you donate warm clothing or other essentials for refugees in DSU and #DMUlocal's winter appeal?

In October, DMU held a 24-hour event to support the UN’s Global Goals. As part of the event, De Montfort Students’ Union (DSU) and #DMUlocal held a donation drive for essential items such as toiletries and non-perishable food to help people living in the refugee camps at Calais.

There was an overwhelming response to this donation drive, and volunteers from DMU Square Mile were able to create 250 packs, which are now being transported to France thanks to our partners at LE Solidarity. We’re very grateful to everyone who helped us make a difference by donating or packing.

In the run up to Christmas and the season of goodwill, we are running another collection appeal at the Campus Centre.

As the nights get colder, we are asking in particular for donations of warm clothing, as well as any of the other basic essentials as listed below.

Clothing for men or women, in small and medium sizes:

  • Warm jogging bottoms
  • Warm and waterproof jackets/coats
  • Robust trainers/walking boots: size 4-11
  • Gloves, scarves and hats
  • New socks
  • New underwear

Also:

  • Blankets
  • Sleeping bags
  • Toiletries and sanitary products

They will be sent to Paris and given out to refugees to keep them warm over the winter period.

You can take any items on this list to DSU Reception in the Campus Centre between Monday 3 to Thursday 13 December.

Please donate anything from the list if you are able, as every item that’s sent will go some way towards helping vulnerable people living in extremely difficult circumstances.

Thanks in advance for your support.
