Advanced Communication Skills for nurses and health care assistants
The aim of this two day course is to enhance the communication skills of senior nurses who work in cancer and haematology services.
Although the agenda of the course is set by the participants having identified their individual learning needs prior to the course, emphasis will be placed on dealing with challenging communication situations. For example, breaking bad news or dealing with angry patients.
Structure and content
This is an intensive course designed around experiential learning.
Prior to the course you will be given a booklet to complete which you will be expected to bring with you to the course. You will be asked to identify a clinical communication related situation which you find difficult and would like to improve.
Participants will be expected to participate in all aspects of the course. There will be a taught component and interactive exercises including role-play in small groups with actors and a facilitator.
Participants will each have the opportunity to practice their skills and receive positive and constructive feedback from their peers in a safe, friendly and supportive environment.
