Celebrating equality and diversity
De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) proudly presents #DMUpride for a third consecutive year, celebrating LBGT History Month.
Our series of cultural events spanning across February and March include an initiative raising awareness of LGBT issues in sport, a talk by prominent religious figures on faith and sexuality, the latest research on mental health in LBGT communities, a special theatre production, and screenings of powerful feature films and true-life stories.
It is important to us that we continue to cultivate an environment in which our staff, students and partners have freedom to be, to inspire and to succeed. We are working on delivering that through our equality and diversity charter, DMU freedom, and we continue to show our dedication in many ways including offering students a #DMUglobal opportunity to volunteer at World Pride 2017 in Madrid.
We are delighted that DMU’s commitment to equality and diversity has been recognised once again in the prestigious Stonewall Top 100 Employers league table – an annual audit of workplace culture for LGBT staff. Thanks to our work to make the university an inclusive workplace, DMU climbed 19 places in the table released last month, taking us to 39th in the list of the UK’s top 100 employers and the third best performing university in the UK.
We are also grateful for the ongoing support of our partners, including the Leicester LGBT Centre, Curve theatre, Phoenix cinema and art centre and the Leicester Comedy Festival.
