Happy 70th Birthday to the oldest and finest Contour Fashion course in the world!
Established in 1947 by the British Corset Industry to support the rise of innovative and technical designers within the local corset industry, today Contour Fashion at DMU is the only course dedicated to intimate apparel design which combines heritage and innovation, and is widely regarded by industry experts as one of the best in the world.
Over the last 70 years, thousands of our students have dared to be different and created stunning designs which have earned themselves prestigious positions within the industry.
There are very few big businesses specialising in lingerie, swimwear, leisurewear and nightwear that have not been influenced in some way by our exceptional graduates after offering them employment.
As the course enters its eighth decade, our alumni are still pushing the envelope with innovative creations for some of the biggest names in contour fashion, including ASOS, Calvin Klein, Triumph, Gossard, H&M, Clover International, Tommy Hilfiger, Aubade, Curvy Kate, Stretchline, and Marks & Spencer.
Under the tutelage of Gillian Proctor and her team, alumni have also gone on to create their own labels, causing a sensation when their work has been worn by superstars such as Beyonce, Rita Ora and Paloma Faith or earning them international prizes for their brilliant inventiveness.
It is fair to say that DMU is proud of every one of our graduates as well as the outstanding academics who have helped them take their first steps towards a flourishing professional career.
