Beaumont Park – FAQ

Why is De Montfort University (DMU) not able to work with Mr Langton?

We don’t believe that Mr Langton is working in the interests of Beaumont Town Football Club, parents and supporters. We see no evidence of proper structures in place to ensure transparency and accountability. This is important for parents who are paying subscriptions to the club and for DMU which has invested in the facilities for the benefit of students, staff and the wider community.

We would therefore like to see a proper committee set up by parents, supporters and players which publishes annual accounts and is open to audit.

It may be that parents and supporters may need help in setting up a new committee but DMU’s Square Mile team are on hand to support in any way necessary to help bring this about. Through DMU Square Mile, the university has experience in this area, having supported Studs FC in the west of Leicester for the last four years. Leicester City Council is also offering its support in this process.

We would simply ask parents, players and supporters to ask themselves what contribution they may be able to make to help establish BTFC on a sure and more sustainable footing.

Why have subscriptions apparently increased for parents for the use of Beaumont Park facilities?

Over the last few days, a number of parents have contacted DMU to say that the subscriptions for their children to play for Beaumont Town have been dramatically raised this season. Some reports allege that the subscriptions have been raised threefold.

The alleged reason given for this by Mr Langton was that De Montfort University had significantly increased the costs to the club in the summer following the transformation of the facilities at Beaumont Park.

When DMU signed the agreement, it was important to us to ensure that the costs did not increase for parents and users of Beaumont Park. DMU can therefore state that it has not increased costs for BTFC.

To clarify this situation, De Montfort University therefore calls on Mr Langton:

1. Urgently to explain what is happening to this additional income

2. To publish the club's annual accounts

3. To reveal how the income and expenditure of Beaumont Town FC is audited

Our Finance team stands ready to offer any assistance the club may need to prepare its accounts - for free.

When will Beaumont Park re-open?

The university has a duty to ensure the safety and security of our students and staff and indeed all users of our facilities. Until those concerns are allayed it will need to remain closed.
