24-hour #LoveInternational vigil

Universities are built on the free exchange of ideas. Only in an environment free of intolerance and divisiveness, which welcomes diversity and difference, can new ideas which benefit the world truly be born

This is the principle on which De Montfort University operates and we strongly believe that each member of our scholarly community is a proud #CitizenOfTheWorld. 

To demonstrate this, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dominic Shellard, called a 24-hour Vigil to demonstrate solidarity with victims of human rights violations and to highlight the crucial importance of Article 1 of the the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR).

Taking place in DMU’s Hawthorn Square, the event saw a huge programme of debate and performances by DMU staff, students and partners on a variety of topics linking back to the core theme. People were continuously encouraged to join in the vigil to stand in solidarity or make their voice heard on issues they wanted to address.
