Table Tennis smash and serve their way to 100% record

Without dropping a single set in their opening two games, Men’s Table Tennis have secured back to back wins to steal the headlines following Week 2 of the British Universities and Colleges Sports (BUCS) season.

A week after their 17-0 humiliation of University of Northampton First Team, they travelled to Birmingham City University hoping to maintain their winning start in BUCS Table Tennis Midlands Division 3A.

Not only did they win, but they replicated their 17-0 score line from a week earlier to leave them sitting top of their division at the end of Week 2.

Club Chair Sam Henderson, said: “All the hard work and dedication paid off once again this week.

“As a team we’re all working extremely hard to improve and keep our winning run going.

“We know it’s early in the season and we expect other teams to also improve, so it’s imperative that we take each game as it comes and reach our goal of winning our BUCS division.

“We are also keeping one eye on the results of the University of Leicester as we prepare for our first ever Varsity fixture.”

Elsewhere, Women’s Basketball First Team maintained their 100% winning record with another win away from home, this time at Cranfield University.

Last week they opened their campaign with a 49-22 victory at University of Lincoln and this, they bettered their score defeating their BUCS Midlands 3B opponents 53-24.

Club Chair Mary Bolawole, said: “This was a big win for us as a team, not having a full team made us slightly anxious at the start of the game.

“However, it made us play even better as a team and we hope to continue improving throughout the rest of the season.”

At home, it was a difficult week for #TeamDMU with defeats in all fixtures hosted at the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Leisure Centre.

The first Pick of the Week saw Netball Second Team face rivals The University of Leicester. They were defeated 54-16.

Netball Firsts took an impressive early lead v The University of Lincoln and held on to their lead until deep into the third quarter when their opposition came fighting back in a thrilling encounter.

They pulled away in the fourth quarter and the girls fell to an undeserved 45-36 defeat.
