It has been a painfully long summer of waiting, but on Wednesday, #TeamDMU will begin the new British Universities and Colleges Sports (BUCS) campaign hoping to create yet more sporting history.
Sports clubs at De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) are raring to go as they look to build on their unprecedented ten-place rise in the university sports rankings secured last season.
With a record number of #TeamDMU sides entered into BUCS league and cup competitions, 43 in total, history has already been made and there is confidence it will be another historic season on the field too.
Twenty-one clubs will begin their campaigns on home soil in a fixture list full of huge clashes between local rivals. #TeamDMU will be hoping they can make their home advantage count.
Last season, #TeamDMU clinched five league titles, plus an historic cup win for Men’s Rugby First XV on top of the closest Varsity result in its history.
Eleanor Davison, Chair of DMU’s Women’s Lacrosse team said: "DMU Lacrosse, both men's and women's, have been preparing for the upcoming BUCS season for over a month, working with the Strength and Conditioning team to increase our training times and intensity to prepare us for the challenges ahead.
“We hope that this extra training and commitment will help us place in our league and destroy UoL at Varsity.”
