Students at De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) are being given a unique opportunity to work with a Premier League Champion.
Leicester City and Austria defender Christian Fuchs, will team up with university through his fashion brand, #NoFuchsGiven.
The footballer became an internet sensation in 2016, when he competed in a set of video challenges with his Leicester teammates as they went on to lift the title in England’s top flight.
The partnership will offer a wealth of opportunities for students from a variety of courses enhancing their employability opportunities.
Fashion students will be given an amazing opportunity to develop designs for the brand, with a lucky winner having their work released into the #NoFuchsGiven clothing range while students also create a social media campaign around the competition.
Also as part of the deal with Christian, there will be a fashion show promoting his brand incorporated into one of DMU’s January graduation ceremonies at TheVenue@DMU.
The ceremony on Wednesday 25 January will be followed by the inaugural re-opening of the refurbished Campus Centre, home to De Montfort Student’s Union (DSU), where Christian will cut the ribbon and be given a tour of the new facility.
DMU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dominic Shellard said: “We’re delighted to be working with Christian on a professional level to promote his fashion brand here at DMU, while our students also reap the benefits of the unique partnership.
“Christian is an important ally for us and hopefully students from a variety of courses will get something worthwhile out of the exciting initiatives we will be launching as a result of this relationship.
“The fashion show and opening of our new Campus Centre are just the beginning of what is going to be an exciting partnership with a Premier League footballer we’ve all come to know so well in recent months.”
Over the last week students and have had an opportunity to enter a competition to win one of 100 of Christian's #NoFuchsGiven t-shirts. The competition which closes today (Friday) will see winners having a unique opportunity to collect their prize from Fuchs himself at a special event.
Game Art students posed for photos in freezing temperatures and heavy snow to promote the competition and brand on the recent #DMUglobal landmark trip to New York.
Student opportunities will be explored too for collaboration during London and New York Graduate Fashion weeks as well as research into potential placement, internships and visits to the two cities for students from relevant courses.
DMU will also select students from academic courses to provide fashion consultancy advice to #NoFuchsGiven. Opportunities will be promoted to students throughout the next few weeks though the DMU Students webpage.
Christian visited DMU in May 2016 to take part in a Q+A in front of 500 students’ just days after Leicester lifted the Premier League title.
The clothing line was founded by Christian and is run by himself and his wife Raluca.
