Community projects across Beaumont Leys are being invited to apply for support from De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) in a new public good initiative.
The university is offering the skills and experience of its staff and students, together with some start-up funding, to help make ideas for useful and innovative schemes a reality.
The initiative – called Building a Better Beaumont Leys – is being run in conjunction with Beaumont Lodge Neighbourhood Association and Ur Choice Young People’s Project, two youth and community development projects working in Beaumont Leys.
DMU already runs a number of initiatives throughout Beaumont Leys, including sending volunteers to help run youth club sessions at Beaumont Lodge and investing in improving Beaumont Town football pitches.
Mark Charlton, DMU’s Head of Public Engagement, said the project was about helping new sustainable and beneficial projects get off the ground.
He said: “A community like Beaumont Leys is not short of good ideas but can be short of support to see these ideas realised.
“The work we’re already doing in the area shows us there is an appetite for helpful, well-run community projects and we have a huge pool of talent and experience to make these happen.”
