Meet the youngest-ever attendee at De Montfort University Leicester (DMU)’s graduations ceremony – one-day-old Olivia O’Callaghan.
Olivia was born weighing 5lb 15oz at 12.46am on Friday – two weeks earlier than expected – to proud parents Georgia Hollis-Whitaker and dad Jamie O’Callaghan, of Leicester.
So she was there, swaddled in her grandmother’s arms, to see mum Georgia graduate and collect her First Class degree in Sociology at The Venue at 2.30pm on Saturday, along with a prize awarded by the Sociology department to the student who showed outstanding dedication on her course.
Georgia left the Leicester Royal Infirmary at 6am on Friday and had a mad scramble to get her gown sorted and everything organised, but she could not be happier that Olivia could be part of her graduation day.
“She wasn’t due for another two weeks so I thought I would be pregnant on my graduation day, but I’m so glad she’s here,” said Georgia, beaming. “She’ll be on all my graduation pictures.”
