Around 250 students graduated from De Montfort University Leicester’s (DMU) Faculty of Business and Law at the second-largest winter graduation of 2016.

Weds AM grads - For story

In front of the audience at this morning’s ceremony, alumnus Zeeshan Lahaware, who graduated from DMU’s Accounting and Business Management BA, now studying for a PhD, inspired the latest graduands with a rap which began:

“For the graduates of today, here is a message to you

Remain optimistic in whichever endeavour you pursue

Do not fear facing adversity or tackling an issue

At times this life is trying, making it difficult for us to continue…”

And ended:

“…What you have achieved today is supreme

The joy on your loved ones can clearly be seen

Soon in your hands will be a degree pristine

Congratulations to the class of 2016.”

Geraint Price, who first completed a BA in Business Management and Economics degree at DMU, graduated from Finance and Investment MSc and said: “The ceremony was phenomenal, a proper show and really fun too. I am feeling really good.”

Working for Leicester City Football Club (LCFC) now after having been the university’s first team football coach, Geraint continued: “I want to do my ACA accountancy and finance exams now and then get into sports finance, with my sports background. It’s great to be graduating from DMU for the second time, with a bigger hood!”

Talking about the ceremony at The Venue@DMU, the university's newest building and home to graduations for the first time, Geraint said: “I think the new location is better, more personal; you can see all your family. It’s good that it’s part of the campus too. You get the whole of your experience at the university.”

He added: “I loved the poem in the ceremony; it was clever with a nice twist and put the biggest smile on my face. I have had a brilliant time at graduation and at the university.”

Inspired by his current job, Geraint said: “It’s so good working at LCFC, the atmosphere is amazing. I run football sessions in the Square Mile area and help vulnerable children get off the streets. It is a job you go home and can say that you did something positive today.”

Weds AM grads - For story three

Chris Mutton, who graduated Business Management and Economics BA said: “It has been a long time since I started here in 2010. I spent year as VP for Student Activities at the Students’ Union, and a year when I had to retake my third year for personal reasons. I am really pleased to be here.

“When I say it is like leaving a family, I really think that. I am going to take away so many friendships. I would totally recommend coming to DMU. You can’t ignore how well the university is doing. I don’t have a bad word to say about it.”

Weds AM grads - For story two

Accounting and Business Management BA graduate Fahima Rafik said: “I am so excited and happy. The ceremony was amazing and I’m emotional it’s all over. It’s been fantastic at DMU. I am going to miss it.”

Nour Habona, graduating from Accounting and Finance MSc added: “I am feeling awesome, it’s an honour to graduate. All my hard work is paying off. I am thinking of doing a Graduate Champions internship now.”
