A business graduate now working at multinational company IBM has been singing the praises of one of De Montfort University Leicester (DMU)’s most innovative modules.
The Fox’s Lair – which challenges first-year students to devise and pitch a business idea to a team of real-life entrepreneurs – is celebrating its 10th anniversary this week.
And DMU graduate Christopha Gordon, who went through the gruelling experience himself while studying Business Management and Enterprise, said it helped him develop skills he has found crucial in his new career.
He landed a job at IBM while still at DMU after completing a placement year with the company. During his time at DMU, Chris also relaunched the university's student entrepreneurship society, WIRE DMU.
Chris is among the guests set to attend the 10th anniversary celebration at DMU on Thursday.
He said: “The Fox’s Lair!® was the first time I had done a business plan, which was useful, and it also helps you to be creative and improve your sales skills.
“It’s practical in contrast to the other theoretical university assignments and helps you to exercise real life skills such as creative thinking, business planning and pitching.”

Business men and women from sectors as diverse as media, manufacturing, marketing, tourism and teaching give up their time for two weeks every year when they head to DMU to hear the pitches from the student teams.
Prizes will be given out to those students who were best able to present their idea.
Edwina Goodwin, senior lecturer and programme leader for the Business Entrepreneurship and Innovation degree, said: “The Fox’s Lair!® brings real business into the classroom.
"It gives students a chance to challenge their abilities to be creative and innovative in a team and develop good life skills, receive feedback from real business people, and have fun!"
