'It didn't take me long to realise that I wouldn't get the opportunity like this again!'

Elizabeth Scott, a De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) Fashion Textiles & Accessories graduate, had not considered doing a master’s after landing a job straight from graduation - but a Facebook post about the Vice-Chancellor’s 2020 Scholarship caught her attention.

“It didn’t take me long to realise that I wouldn’t get the opportunity like this again … a 50 per cent fee reduction is huge. So I came in to see my Fashion Textiles & Accessories tutor who said I should have confidence in my abilities. I decided to go for it,” said Elizabeth.

As an undergraduate, Elizabeth was one of a handful of DMU students selected to exhibit at New Designers, the UK's most important graduate design exhibition. After featuring there she was offered a job as a freelance knitwear designer - a role she knew she would have to fit around any further study. Elizabeth said: “Two or three tutors I knew from undergraduate level, and I gained quite a few more - absolutely brilliant and so supportive. The tutors are creative and inspiring people. For me DMU opens doors that otherwise aren’t open to you.”
