Kathryn Arnold

Role

Kathryn Arnold became Chief Information Officer in November 2011, a role which combined her existing remit for Library and Learning Services with responsibility for Information Technology and Media Services.

Kathryn is responsible for:  mainstream library provision; academic learning support; enhancing learning through technology; copyright; the university’s research repository (DORA), the university archive; IT/AV infrastructure and support; business applications; IT training; and Freedom of Information/Data Protection.

Kathryn has also held the role of Deputy Chief Operating Officer since October 2011.

Biography

Kathryn graduated in European Studies (French and German) from the University of Bath, with a postgraduate qualification in Librarianship and Information Science from Loughborough University. A Chartered member of CILIP (Chartered Institute of Information Professionals), she has spent her entire career working in the higher and further education sectors, primarily in libraries, including Stirling and Bath Spa Universities, and Tresham Institute of Further and Higher Education.

She joined De Montfort University in 1991 as Information Centre Manager at the then brand new Milton Keynes campus, later taking responsibility for Library and IT operations at “DMU south”, encompassing the two Bedford campuses, before moving to the Leicester campus in late 1997 as Director of Library Services for the university.

She represents the University on the Board of Governors at the local Regent College, where she chairs the Audit Committee, and is a member of the “Inspire East Midlands” Steering Group a cross-sectoral library initiative focussed on promoting access and lifelong learning. She is also a Director on the Board of EMMAN.

Outside work, Kathryn is a keen gardener, an avid reader, and has an interest in many forms of music. Whilst not an active sportswoman, she is a keen cricket supporter and enjoys a day at the test match.
