Three Leicester based BAME artists Kush Kali, Marcus Dove and Tim Fowler discuss their experiences of the art world and how it has been affected by their heritage. Since graduating from De Montfort University Khush Khali has shown internationally as an artist and been involved in delivering work in learning contexts across the city and beyond. Another recent De Montfort University graduate, Marcus Dove, has developed a practice that has been exhibited internationally. Tim Fowler has honed his urban art inspired imagery over the past decade to establish a global collecting network. The event will be chaired by G Sian, Associate Director Attenborough Arts Centre.
Also in the gallery is an exhibtion by Iranian artist Mitra Tabrizien. Mitra represented Iran at Venice Biennalle and has had solos at Tate, Victoria & Albert Museum. Her exhibition displays a suite of seven photographs which portray immigrants in the now redundant factories that they emigrated to work in. This suite of photographs portraying immigrants in Leicestershire have been shown in New York, Toronto and London but never seen in Leicester.
