Thinking about studying at DMU? Our Open Days are the perfect opportunity to explore your course, experience campus life and discover what makes DMU the right university for you.

During your visit, you can take part in a course taster session, tour our city-centre campus, meet current students and speak to our Careers Team about your future opportunities.

Your day at a glance

Arrive and check in (from 9:00am)

Before your visit, you'll receive a digital Open Day Guide after booking your place. It includes the full timetable of talks, tours and activities, so you can plan your day in advance. When you arrive, check in at the Welcome Talk or any faculty building, where our student ambassadors will help you register.

Welcome Talk (9:25am–10:00am)

Start your visit by learning more about studying at DMU, what to expect during the day and the support available throughout your university journey.

Course taster sessions (throughout the day)

Find out what you'll study, meet your lecturers, explore our teaching facilities and ask questions about your course. All information for specific times will be in our guide.

Tours (9:00am–2:30pm)

Take a guided tour of our city-centre campus, including teaching spaces, study areas, social spaces, accommodations and facilities you'll use as a student.

FAQs

  1. Should I go to a university open day in year 12 or year 13?

    You can attend university open days in both Year 12 and Year 13 - and if you can, it’s worth going to both. Most students find visiting early helps them explore options, and returning later helps them make confident choices.

    Year 12: A great time to start

    Going to an Open Day in Year 12 gives you a head start. You’ll get a feel for the campus, can explore course options, and begin narrowing down your choices before it’s time to apply in Year 13.

    Year 13: Decision time

    If you’re applying soon or already have offers, an Open Day can help you feel confident about your choice. You can ask questions about your course, check out where you might live and study, and get advice on things like finance, accommodation, and Clearing. You might even get an offer on the day.

  2. Parking and travel

    Parking in the below carparks is free for our attendees.

    • Main carpark - LE2 7DP (Once on Gateway Street turn left down Deacon Street and the carpark will be at the end.)
    • Clephan carpark - LE2 7EE (The car park will be ahead past Gosling Street and on the left.)
    • Bede Island carpark - LE2 7EJ (Go down Bede Island Road and the car park will be on your right.)

    It shouldn't take more than 5-10 minutes to walk anywhere on campus.

  3. When I arrive, where should I go?

    Head to our welcome talk at 9:25am provided by our Vice Chancellor or get familiar with campus and the buildings you’ll want to be in for the course talks. We also offer faculty welcome talks you can join starting from 10:15am.

  4. Where can I eat?

    There are plenty of places to grab something to eat and drink during your Open Day. Across campus, you'll find cafés serving hot and cold food, snacks and drinks, and we often have local street food vendors on site too.

    If you'd prefer to bring your own lunch, you're welcome to use our indoor and outdoor seating areas across campus. And if you'd like to explore beyond DMU, Leicester city centre is just a short walk away, with a wide range of cafés, restaurants and takeaways to choose from.
